YESTERDAY’S METHODS AREN’T UP TO TOMORROW’S TASKS

In the first months of the year, we have made remarkable breakthroughs. I will highlight three of them.

Firstly, industry and working methods are undergoing a substantial upheaval. This is why we have, in addition to traditional surface treatment services, been paying ever greater attention to developing our production and services and offering new methods and technologies.

One of our most popular growth services has been polyurea, made for extreme conditions. In the early part of the year we had orders from Rauman Meriteollisuuskiinteistöt Ltd. and Cramo Finland. Representing the former, Mr. Mikko Tapani described the benefits of polyurea as follows on page 14 of this magazine: “Polyurea was our first choice thanks to its efficient insulating properties, resistance to wear and cleanability.”

Secondly, this year has also brought us significant project orders. Pages 10–12 present a project that entails surface treating the 400-metre-long Ounaskoski rail and road bridge in Rovaniemi, northern Finland.

This is the largest Finnish bridge project order in company history and one of the most notable investments of the year in Rovaniemi. The main contractor, Destia Rail, chose FSP thanks to our large size, previous positive experiences and solid know-how.

The early part of the year also saw us carry out the surface treatment of steel pipes 50 metres below Helsin- ki’s Esplanadi, in the centre of Helsinki, under tunnel conditions. The client was energy company Helen, which is building a second large, industrial scale heat pump plant in Helsinki.

Thirdly, an ever-faster moving industry requires flexibility along the entire production chain. The surface treatment process must not only get started very quickly but it also has to be completed according to the agreed schedule, before the next phase of the works can begin.

In conclusion, success in industry today requires increasingly specialized methods and technologies, which need to be delivered increasingly fast – and without compromising quality or supply security. We are well placed to succeed even against the backdrop of industrial upheaval.
